The Kaduna State Government has unveiled a new plan to reform the Almajiri education system. The announcement followed the EduPACT 2025 Summit, where leaders agreed that Almajiri children should be included in formal education.
Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abubakar Sambo, explained that the new plan will combine Qur’anic education with literacy, digital, and vocational skills. He also added that barriers such as school uniforms and PTA fees will be removed to encourage enrolment.
He noted that the government will mobilise religious leaders to help promote the new system and convince parents to support it. The state also plans to allocate N440 billion for vocational and technical education, with a focus on developing job-ready skills. Participants at the summit called for the establishment of an Education Reform Council and recommended that 15% of the education budget be allocated to skills training.
