Kano: 72 School Teachers Trained on Modern Fish Farming

The Kano State Government has begun a refresher training programme for more than 72 secondary school teachers on modern fish farming, as part of efforts to equip students with practical skills for self-reliance.

The State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, while declaring the training open in Kano, said the programme, organised by the Kano Educational Resource Department (KERD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is a train-the-trainer initiative, where participants, who teach fisheries in schools, will pass on the training to students across the state. “The Kano Government is committed to providing entrepreneurship training to secondary school students to make them self-reliant after leaving school,” Makoda stated.

Vocational skills are the most effective means of improving students’ livelihoods, especially at this time. This administration is committed to giving them the tools to sustain themselves and their families in future. Makoda urged participants to make full use of the training, noting that Kano’s large population, if well harnessed, could play a crucial role in boosting the state’s economy.
