Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has given permanent and pensionable appointments to 4,315 former Better Service Delivery for All (BESDA) teachers, describing the move as a milestone in his education reforms.
At a ceremony in Kano, the governor also announced plans to hire 2,616 additional teachers through the State Universal Basic Education Board to address the teacher-pupil ratio across the state’s 44 local government areas.
“Education remains the cornerstone of our development agenda,” he said, urging the newly confirmed teachers to “teach with passion, serve with integrity, and dedicate themselves to shaping the character of children.”
Governor Yusuf listed further interventions, including a ₦200 million Teacher Loan Scheme, the promotion of thousands of teachers, the recruitment of 17,000 watchmen for school security, and plans to provide motorcycles and digital devices to support officers. He noted that 31.4% of Kano’s 2025 budget has been allocated to education, contributing to the state’s leading performance in the 2025 NECO examinations.
The Universal Basic Education Commission commended the state for absorbing the BESDA teachers, calling the step a model for others.
