Pupils at LGEA Primary School, Unguwar Dantale, in Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State are studying in unsafe conditions as the only school in the community has fallen into disrepair, according to a civic accountability group.
MonITNG said all six classrooms at the school are dilapidated, with cracked walls and roofs damaged by windstorms, leaving children exposed to the elements. Many pupils sit on bare floors to learn, while others bring desks and chairs from home.
The group said the last renovation was carried out in 2017 by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and that repeated appeals by residents for government intervention have been ignored.
“Despite billions earmarked for education, official records show little impact on the ground,” MonITNG said, noting that UBEC has allocated ₦250 billion nationwide, with ₦121 billion already released to 27 states. Community members informed the group that they had written “countless letters” to the local government chairman requesting repairs.
MonITNG urged the Katsina State Government to declare an emergency in education, warning that children in rural areas were being denied safe and conducive environments for learning.
