Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has revealed that his government has spent ₦2.7 billion to pay tuition fees for all Kebbi students studying both in Nigeria and abroad. He said this is part of the State’s commitment to free education from primary to tertiary level.
The governor made the statement while hosting student leaders, including the Special Assistant to the President on Students, Sunday Dare, and NANS President, Olusola Oladejo, in Birnin Kebbi. Governor Idris explained that the aim is to ease the financial burden on parents, especially now that many tertiary institutions have raised their school fees. He also mentioned that his government has doubled feeding funds for pupils from ₦150 million to ₦300 million.
Additionally, over 5,000 teachers have been hired, 2,004 schools renovated, and 340 new schools built. He praised President Tinubu’s student loan scheme and pledged to support the Renewed Hope Agenda in Kebbi State.
