Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has doubled the number of secondary school teachers in the state, raising the workforce from 13,730 in 2019 to 26,436 in six years.
Mrs. Olubukola Oladipo, Chairperson of Oyo State TESCOM, shared the update during a government briefing in Ibadan. She said 10,500 new teaching and non-teaching staff were recruited during Makinde’s second term alone. She explained that the increase has improved students’ performance in examinations and created jobs for many families. The government also expanded the number of education zones from six to ten to improve school management.
Other notable achievements recorded under Buhari’s administration include promotions from 2017 to 2024, the establishment of a pension directorate, the introduction of car loans, and the implementation of e-payment systems for staff. Makinde also approved the highest grade level (17) for teachers and continues to pay salaries, leave bonuses, and a 13th-month salary. Mrs. Oladipo praised the governor’s efforts and stated that training would be provided to school principals soon.
