Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has renamed The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in honour of the late former governor, Dr Omololu Olunloyo.
The announcement was made during an interdenominational commendation service held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan on Thursday, as part of the funeral rites for the elder statesman. Makinde declared that the institution will now be called Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan, in recognition of Olunloyo’s contributions to education and governance in the state. The late Olunloyo, who died shortly before his 90th birthday, was the pioneer rector of the institution and a respected mathematician, scholar, and administrator.
According to the governor, the renaming is a tribute to his enduring legacy and significant role in advancing educational development in Oyo State. The state government will release further details on the renaming and commemorative events in the coming days.
