Ibadan, Saki Technical Colleges Refurbishment Set to Begin

Refurbishment work at Oyo State Technical Colleges in Ibadan and Saki is set to commence as contractors prepare to move to the site.

Governor Seyi Makinde had announced the initiative last October during the funeral of the late Chief Michael Koleoso in Saki, pledging to enhance technical and vocational education in partnership with the government of Finland.

He noted that Finland places greater value on technical education than paper qualifications and said the agreement for the refurbishment of the Ibadan and Saki colleges had already been signed.

In November, the Oyo State Executive Council approved ₦1.15 billion for the first phase of the project, which will cover remodelling and revamping of the two colleges in line with World Bank Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) standards.

Contractors are now reportedly being mobilised to begin work. However, the technical colleges in Ogbomoso, Oyo, and Iseyin remain on hold, despite growing calls from residents for similar upgrades.
