Chief Olisa Metuh, at his 60th birthday celebrations
Former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, has announced a scholarship programme for five inmates of Nnewi Correctional Centre in Anambra State, enabling them to pursue university-level education. The initiative was unveiled during Metuh’s visit to the centre on Thursday as part of his 60th birthday celebrations.
In addition, Metuh commissioned the drilling of a borehole to provide safe drinking water for inmates and laid the groundwork for a Skills Acquisition Centre to equip prisoners with vocational competencies for reintegration into society.
Speaking to inmates, Metuh, a former detainee himself, encouraged them to remain hopeful and resilient. “Though you are here, let your body be here and not your soul. Your soul shall be where you want it to be when you come out of here,” he said. He also promised expedited support for minor offenders seeking bail.
Metuh’s outreach extended beyond the correctional centre. He visited the Old Rev Father’s Home and St Andrew’s Diocesan Church Centre in Nnewi, donating food, gift items, wheelchairs, and N2.5 million to support the physically challenged.
The former PDP official also paid homage to Igwe Kenneth Orizu, reaffirming his commitment to bringing his philanthropic work to his hometown.
