The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has advised newly admitted students of Dorben Polytechnic to focus on acquiring marketable skills to enhance their future careers.
Speaking at the 26th Matriculation and 30th Anniversary of the institution, Alausa — represented by Olubisi Olagbenro, Deputy Director at the Federal Ministry of Education — said education under the Renewed Hope Agenda is geared towards equipping youths with practical skills for self-reliance.
He emphasised the importance of technical education in national development. He highlighted government initiatives, such as the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which aim to promote skills acquisition and support indigent students.
The minister also urged students to support security efforts on campus and refrain from anti-social behaviours while commending Dorben Polytechnic for its contributions to technical education over the past 30 years.
The founder of the Polytechnic, Dr A.B. Ekwere, challenged the students to strive for excellence. At the same time, Rector Mrs Uzu Oluyemisi Iyabo said the institution is committed to producing industry-ready graduates through practical, hands-on training.
