The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) has announced plans to launch a loss-of-licence insurance scheme for Nigerian pilots and aircraft engineers.
Developed in partnership with First Standard Insurance Brokers, the initiative will provide financial protection for aviation professionals who lose their licences due to medical incapacity or other qualifying conditions that prevent them from working.
NAAPE President, Captain Bunmi Gindeh, stated that the move aligns with Nigeria’s aviation welfare standards and global best practices, ensuring that members are not left financially stranded if they are declared unfit for duty.
“This scheme safeguards our members and their families, while promoting safety and professionalism in the aviation sector,” Gindeh stated.
He added that NAAPE is working to make the insurance affordable and accessible to all members, including those in private and charter services.
NAAPE Deputy President, Engr. Mudi Muhammad noted that the initiative was necessary to protect professionals from financial hardship arising from unexpected medical conditions. “This programme guarantees that no pilot or engineer faces such circumstances alone,” he said.
