Chiemka Okoronta, a 29-year-old Nigerian postgraduate student, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl.
Okoronta was said to have defiled the girl on March 25, 2025, while he boarded a night bus with her and other passengers.
According to the evidence presented by Bradford Crown Court, Okoronta took advantage of the girl upon realizing that her phone was dead and getting home was difficult. The court revealed that Okoronta lured the teenager and locked her in a bathroom where he raped her, after which she escaped and contacted the police through a passerby’s phone.
Described as a dangerous sexual predator, Judge Sophie McKone added that the defendant will serve three more years on extended licence while also being placed on the sex offenders register for life.
According to the BBC, Okoronta could also be deported to Nigeria.
