Nigerian Student Wins Global Women in STEM Scholarship

A Nigerian scholar, Racheal Akindiose, has been awarded the SI Pioneering Women in STEM Scholarship, making her the only Nigerian selected in this year’s cohort.

She will study for a fully funded Master’s degree in Biomedical Surface Science at Malmö University in Sweden, joining 50 other women chosen from across Africa and Asia.

Akindiose graduated with First-Class Honours in Biochemistry from the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, in 2023, where she ranked among the top 1% of her faculty.

She credited her success to hard work, mentorship from the Passport Intervention Programme, and support from family and friends.

Speaking after the award, she said she hoped to contribute to research in biomedical innovation, with a focus on medical implants and diagnostics.
