The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, has stressed the need for stronger cooperation among key institutions that support Nigeria’s governance system.
He made the call in Abuja when the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Hon. Justice Babatunde Adejumo, paid him a courtesy visit. Both institutions agreed to set up a joint committee to identify areas of collaboration.
Prof. Sulaiman described the meeting as a “landmark interaction,” noting that the legislature and judiciary share a common role in building knowledge, skills, and capacity for better governance. He warned that without making a conscious investment in training and institutional synergy, good governance would remain difficult to achieve.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen capacity building for lawmakers and judicial officers, ensuring more effective delivery of their mandates. Observers see the step as a vital move toward improving Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
