A former Dean at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has made history by becoming the first substantive Vice-Chancellor of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo.
This landmark appointment was confirmed in a press statement released on June 16, 2025, by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, OAU. Prof. Popoola, a seasoned scholar in Educational Foundations and Counselling, was chosen after a thorough national selection process. His appointment is viewed as a significant milestone for AFUED, which has recently transitioned to university status.
Until his recent appointment, Prof Popoola, who has over 20 years of academic experience under his belt, has served in several high-profile positions. They include the Head of the Department, Deputy Provost of the Postgraduate College, and Dean of the Faculty of Education at OAU. He is also well-known for his research work, which has significantly contributed to shaping educational policies in Nigeria.
Reacting to the appointment, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, described it as a proud moment for the university. He said, “This has projected Professor Popoola’s visionary leadership and OAU’s commitment to nurturing world-class academics. We are confident he will elevate AFUED to new heights.” Professor Popoola is expected to begin work immediately and lead efforts in academic innovation and institutional development at AFUED.
