The Legal Unit of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has questioned the legitimacy of a pre-action notice served on the institution over alleged irregularities in its 2025 Post-UTME exercise.
In a formal response dated October 4, 2025, the university noted that the correspondence from the complainant’s law firm bore a 2024 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal rather than a valid 2025 one. According to OAU, this indicates that the lawyer had not renewed his practising license, a statutory requirement for all active legal practitioners in Nigeria.
The university, therefore, demanded evidence of an up-to-date license before recognising the notice as valid under Nigerian law. It argued that, without such proof, the document remains procedurally defective and unenforceable in court.
OAU stressed that professional compliance is fundamental to ensuring due process and credibility in legal correspondence. The institution reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and fairness in its admission processes while insisting that only properly issued legal notices will be entertained.
