Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife has faced widespread confusion after the Division of Student Affairs instructed newly admitted candidates to resume with admission letters and hostel clearance forms. Many aspirants remain under “Admission in Progress” (AIP) status, with no official confirmation from the university or the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The directive, intended to facilitate early accommodation, has left candidates unable to comply. Prospective students say they have been stuck on AIP for over four weeks, creating uncertainty ahead of the scheduled resumption on October 11.
OAU’s Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. John Odedire, attributed the delay to JAMB, noting the university cannot process candidates not yet officially admitted through the board’s portal. He clarified that orientation postponements aim to give candidates time to complete documentation and are unrelated to the ongoing ASUU strike.
The university’s legal team is also involved in a dispute over a court injunction challenging admissions, which some observers believe may have contributed to the delays. Meanwhile, the Students’ Union has set up online platforms to keep aspirants informed.
OAU management assured that once JAMB completes the admission process, qualified candidates will receive confirmation and clearance to resume.
