The Great Ife Students’ Union at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has stated persistent accommodation issues in the university’s halls of residence.
The statement, released by the Central Executive Council and signed by the Union President, Secretary-General, and Public Relations Officer, was sent to The Nigeria Education News.
Union leaders stated that the delay in public communication was intentional, allowing them to gather accurate information and consult with university authorities before issuing resolutions. The consultations, which took place over the past week, aimed to protect students’ welfare and ensure transparency.
The union noted that accommodation challenges mainly affect students whose programmes extend beyond the standard academic calendar, including those in SWEP, SIWES, ICAN-related activities, and faculties such as Technology, Computing Sciences, and Environmental Design and Management (EDM).
For SWEP students in Technology, Computing Sciences, and EDM, a compromise has been reached. The union said details will be communicated directly through faculty leaders to ensure clarity and timely information for affected students.
