The Chairman of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) in Alimosho, Lagos State, Taiwo Lawal, alias Eniba, reportedly led six men to brutalise a school proprietor in Ogun State for disciplining his son over lateness.
The attack occurred at Meteorite Standard College, Itele, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, after the proprietor, Mr Joseph Omokunle Afolayan, reprimanded Lawal’s 10-year-old son, Sodiq, a JSS 1 pupil, for arriving late and being improperly dressed.
According to Afolayan, the boy defied instructions and fled the school, only to return minutes later with his father and six men who descended on him. The 70-year-old proprietor sustained head and facial injuries and was rescued by students and teachers.
Afolayan, a retired librarian and founder of the school, described the attack as “humiliating and barbaric.” He said the incident was reported to the Ayetoro-Budo Police Division, but Lawal, who allegedly boasted of his influence, has refused to honour police invitations.
Police sources say jurisdictional issues between Lagos and Ogun States have hindered Lawal’s arrest: “The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the station told me that it was not possible to arrest Eniba at his nearby residence under Lagos territory,” Afolayan stated.
Investigations are still ongoing as of the time of this press release.
