A Canadian police officer has been acquitted after shooting Afolabi Opaso, a 19-year-old Nigerian student at the University of Manitoba.
Following an investigation, the unnamed officer was cleared of all charges relating to killing the student who was said to be battling a mental health crisis.
A final report released by the ASIRT read, “There are therefore no reasonable grounds to believe that (the officer) committed an offence.” The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) said that the shooting was in self-defence against Opaso, who ran at the officer with two knives.
