The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has requested that President Bola Tinubu introduce an insurance scheme to protect students in polytechnics. In a statement by its President, Eshiofune Oghayan, the group also called for better mental health awareness and stronger security in schools.
NAPS wants polytechnics to be allowed to give Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Science degrees to end the unfair treatment of HND holders. The students declared June 12 as “Adupe Day” — meaning “thank you” — to celebrate the Tinubu administration’s support for education. They praised the N2.52 trillion allocation to education in the 2025 budget, particularly the N683.4 billion allocated to tertiary education and the over N104 billion allocated as student loans. NAPS announced plans for a “One Million Student March” across the country as a peaceful way to express gratitude to the President and demonstrate support for his education policies.
