The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) plans to mobilise one million students on June 12, Democracy Day, for a peaceful “Adupe March” to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his record investment in education and to demand the end of discrimination against HND holders.
NAPS President, Comrade Eshiofune Oghayan, praised Tinubu for the N2.52 trillion education budget, the Nigeria Education Loan Fund, technical student grants, and innovation initiatives like the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) and iDICE fund.
Oghayan urged the National Assembly to pass legislation allowing polytechnics to award B.Tech and B.Sc (Tech) degrees and transform the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) into a full commission. He also announced upcoming student-led initiatives, including a national insurance scheme, a mental health campaign, and improved campus security efforts. The march, he said, is not a protest but a show of appreciation and a call for further reforms in Nigeria’s technical and vocational education system.
