School Reform Anchors Renewed Hope Agenda

The Federal Ministry of Education has unveiled new reforms aimed at raising teaching standards as part of the government’s Renewed Hope agenda.

A key element of the reform is that all teachers must be registered with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) before they can practice. The ministry explained that TRCN will now regulate and license teachers nationwide, while the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) will focus on in-service training and community-based professional development.

Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu Alausa, had earlier cautioned that schools without certified teachers would no longer serve as examination centres.

The ministry said the initiative is designed to deliver results and sustainability, ensuring that Nigerian children are taught, prepared, and supported by the best. The school reform is a significant step in the Renewed Hope agenda, which aims to transform education and enhance professionalism in teaching nationwide.
