The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi
Seventy staff of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, have undergone a five-day training on organic farming, organised by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) Centre of Excellence for Integrated Farming System.
Dr Abdullahi Muhammad, Director of the Centre, said the initiative aims to equip participants with skills to achieve self-reliance, become employers of labour and promote environmentally sustainable agriculture. He highlighted the importance of using organic methods to protect soil and reduce dependence on chemical inputs.
The Polytechnic’s Rector, Alhaji Sani Usman, represented by Deputy Rector Dr Dalhatu Sa’idu, noted that the training supports health, economic, and environmental benefits while addressing food security challenges. He encouraged farmers and staff to adopt organic practices and maximise the knowledge gained.
Malam Isiyaka Gital, Chairman of Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture, pledged support for expanding the programme to farmers’ groups across the state.
Participants, including Mr Abubakar Ibrahim, are committed to sharing their learning to improve local agricultural practices, strengthen food security, and promote sustainable farming in Bauchi State.
