Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) graduated 8,654 students from the 2023/2024 session, as President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s focus on technology-driven, skills-based education.
Speaking at the college’s 37th convocation, Tinubu, represented by Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has disbursed over ₦50 billion to 624,535 students across 303 tertiary institutions.
The president also noted the launch of the Students’ Venture Grant, supporting innovative business ideas among undergraduates, and confirmed the federal government’s approval of the college’s upgrade to Yaba Technical and Vocational University, aimed at strengthening technical and vocational education.
Tinubu urged graduates to embrace innovation, integrity, and entrepreneurship, stressing that STEMM and technical education remain central to national development. He called on industry leaders to collaborate with the government on research, scholarships, and enterprise development.
The Rector, Dr Ibraheem Abdul, announced that, for the first time, graduates collected their certificates on convocation day, symbolising institutional efficiency. Academic results showed 291 distinctions, 2,434 upper credits, 4,403 lower credits, and 1,526 passes across ND, HND, and certificate programmes.
