The University of Ibadan (UI), Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), and the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission have called for closer ties between universities and industries to drive innovation and national development.
The call was made at the maiden University-Industry Conference held at UI’s International Conference Centre as part of the institution’s 77th Foundation Day and Convocation ceremonies.
NACCIMA President, Mr Jani Ibrahim, represented by Mr Taiye Williams of Lubcon Africa, said structured collaboration between academia and industry was essential to bridge the gap between research and practical application.
DAWN Commission Director-General, Mr Seye Oyeleye, described the initiative as a platform for co-creation, stressing that institutionalising academia-industry-government partnerships would ensure research outcomes address real-world problems.
UI Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kayode Adebowale, said the conference is in line with the university’s commitment to national development through research and innovation. He urged private sector leaders to collaborate with the university to develop solutions to Nigeria’s most pressing challenges.
