UNIBEN Faculty of Arts Marks Golden Jubilee

The Faculty of Arts, University of Benin (UNIBEN), will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a two-day programme scheduled for September 16–17, 2025, at the institution’s main auditorium and banquet hall.

The Golden Jubilee Celebration, themed around five decades of excellence in teaching, research, culture and service, will open with a ceremony, command performances and a university tour.

The second day will feature an anniversary lecture titled “The Place of the Humanities in an AI Era” to be delivered by Prof Francis Egbokhare, a linguist and cultural scholar. The lecture will be followed by a luncheon and banquet.

Dean of the Faculty, Prof Osarhieme Benson Osadolor said, “For 50 years, our faculty has nurtured leaders, thinkers, reformers and creators who continue to shape Nigeria and the world.”

Founded in 1975, the faculty has produced graduates across disciplines including English, Foreign Languages, History and International Studies, Linguistics, Philosophy, Mass Communication, Religions and Theatre Arts.

Many of its alumni have distinguished themselves in academia, literature, governance, diplomacy and the creative industries. The university has also invited students, staff, alumni, partners and the public to participate in the occasion.
