In a bid to improve engineering education in Nigeria, Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nigeria Machine Tools Limited (NMTL). The agreement will result in the establishment of a modern Engineering Skills Development Centre (ESDC) in Osogbo. The centre will give students of mechatronics and other engineering courses hands-on training in technical and entrepreneurial skills. Others from across Nigeria can also benefit from the training.
Speaking during the signing, UNIOSUN Vice Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Adebooye, said the partnership will help bridge the gap between school theory and real-life work experience. Engineer Alexander Igweze from NMTL praised the university’s vision. The centre will teach welding, fabrication, CAD/CAM, CNC operations, and other related skills. It will also help reduce youth unemployment and boost Nigeria’s economy by creating job-ready graduates. The agreement takes effect immediately, with training starting soon.
