UNIPORT Rejects Corruption Claims Against Chairman

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has denied allegations of corruption and financial misconduct against its Governing Council Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.

The claims were made in a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, a member of the university’s Governing Council. Dr. Darma accused the chairman of mismanaging funds, splitting contracts to avoid oversight, awarding vehicle contracts without due process, and diverting over N370 million in public donations. He called for a full EFCC investigation.

In a statement, UNIPORT said the chairman had always acted within his legal authority and in line with financial regulations. The university stressed that all Governing Council decisions are taken collectively after proper deliberation and in compliance with statutory rules. The institution assured that its operations remain transparent and guided by the laws that established the university.
