Over 100 children from low-income areas in Lagos have benefited from the Wings Academy Football Programme, a youth project by Pistis Foundation and The Asumah Brothers (TAB). The seven-week programme, held in communities like Jakande, Sangotedo, and Ibeju-Lekki, combined football training with mentorship.
The children were trained in ball control, staying fit, working together as a team, and becoming good leaders. The goal was not only to teach them how to play football but also to help them feel more confident and give them a sense of direction in life. The programme ended on July 26 with a championship match. Jakande FC Boys won the U13 Male Trophy, while the KOTS Ladies took the U13 Female title. Because of their experiences at the event, many of the children now dream of becoming professional footballers.
Each child received medals, team kits, and awards. Programme coordinator Saheed Adenekan said the goal was transformation, helping children believe in themselves and their futures beyond their current situations. Community support made the event a huge success.
