The Zamfara State Government has awarded contracts worth over ₦5.9 billion for the construction and renovation of basic education facilities under the 2024 UBEC/SUBEB Matching Grant Projects.

The official contract notification was issued Thursday to local contractors involved in the projects, which aim to expand and rehabilitate public schools across the state. According to a statement released on Friday by Ibrahim Musa Maizare, the Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB), the projects include the construction of new schools, the rehabilitation of existing buildings, and the implementation of safety measures in public primary and junior secondary schools.

The statement noted that the contracts were awarded under the supervision of Governor Dauda Lawal, who reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing the state’s education infrastructure gap.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Malam Wadatau Madawaki, called on contractors to adhere to project specifications. Meanwhile, the ZSUBEB Chairman, Professor Nasir Garba Anka, stated that the initiative was designed to promote stakeholder ownership and accountability in school development.
