Professor Ibrahim Adamu-Yakasai has assumed duty as the first Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology in Tsafe, Zamfara State.
His appointment was formally presented at a ceremony in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Education. The institution is the first of its kind in northern Nigeria, combining medical and technological education.
Governor Dauda Lawal, represented by the state’s Head of Service, Yakubu Sani-Haidara, said the university would strengthen human capital development and improve access to advanced healthcare training in Zamfara.
Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa, represented by his junior minister Dr Suwaiba Ahmed, described the university as a transformative project and part of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. He praised Zamfara Central senator Ikira Bilbis for championing the initiative.
Prof Adamu-Yakasai, a gynaecologist and current president of the West African College of Surgeons, pledged to build a solid foundation for the university and called for support to make Tsafe conducive for learning.
The pioneer management team includes Hamisu Yusuf Yalwa as Registrar, Sanusi Usman Naktsalle as Bursar, and Dr Aminu Shehu Liman as Librarian.
