No fewer than 931 candidates from the South-West region have been screened for the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) overseas scholarship programme in Ibadan, Oyo State.
PTDF Zonal Team Leader Masud Mohamed made this announcement on Thursday at the screening venue, the Faculty of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Ibadan. He said 749 candidates had been screened last week for the Master’s category, while 182 doctoral applicants were being assessed this week. Mohamed, the Manager of the College of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna, said the initiative aims to build indigenous expertise in the oil and gas industry. “The scholarship scheme is a deliberate strategy to bridge the capacity gap in the sector. It aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on human capacity development,” he said.
The screening, decentralised across six geopolitical zones, targets only oil and gas-related courses. Some candidates, Funke Olaonipekun and Uchechukwu Ginika, commended PTDF’s transparent selection process. Ginika, who applied to the University of Strasbourg, France, said, “This is an investment in Nigeria’s future.”
