The Akada Children’s Book Festival (ACBF) will return for its seventh edition on October 25 at UPBEAT Recreation Centre in Lekki, Lagos, with organisers urging renewed focus on children’s literacy.
Convener Olubunmi Aboderin-Talabi stated that the 2025 theme, “Book An Adventure,” was designed to inspire young readers to view books as doorways to knowledge, culture, and imagination. “Adventure lies at the heart of every great story, and this year we want children to discover reading as a doorway to endless possibilities,” she said.
Since its launch in 2019, the festival has attracted over 10,000 participants and distributed more than 5,000 books, providing a platform for indigenous authors and storytellers.
Authors Ogbu Eme and Solape Azazi also highlighted the festival’s role in promoting inclusion and early childhood education.
UNESCO estimates that 773 million adults worldwide are unable to read or write, with sub-Saharan Africa recording the highest rates of educational exclusion. Organisers say the festival aims to help close that gap by nurturing a culture of reading in Nigeria.
