The American Embassy in Nigeria has explained why more than 28 colleges in the United States are exporting education to Nigerian students.
The Embassy, through its Public Diplomacy Officer, Brian Neubert, disclosed that the move aims to consolidate US-Nigeria relations and boost the economies of both countries.
Neubert said this in his remarks at the 2025 EduUSA Fair in Abuja on Monday. He said the US government is pleased that thousands of Nigerians continue to study in the US.
“We have seen it for decades; they are exceptional schools in Nigeria, including up to the university level. Over the decades, we have seen many thousands of Nigerians take advantage of overseas opportunities and return to work in Nigeria.
“This is an export of the United States, where Nigerians come to US campuses to pay tuition,” he stated, adding, “The United States is proud to partner with Nigeria in empowering the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers.
The event with the theme ‘Empowering Future, Discover American Excellence in Education and Innovation’ featured thousands of Nigerian students in the country.
Meanwhile, data from the US Embassy in Nigeria and the 2024 Open Doors Report showed that Nigeria ranked seventh with 20,029 students enrolled in US colleges and universities during the 2023/2024 academic year.
