The Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr Abubakar Adamu Dabban, has commenced oversight visits to colleges and research institutes under the council.
During his visit to the National Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR), Dabban praised the teamwork and commitment of the staff, describing them as key to the institute’s success. He urged workers to remain dedicated and support their executive director in advancing the institute’s goals.
The ARCN boss also revealed that discussions are ongoing with the Head of Service to address the welfare and service conditions of research staff. He said efforts are being made to secure access to funds from the Nigerian Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to boost research activities.
Dabban added that the council is working on reforms that will allow researchers to rise to the rank of associate professor, stressing that “a new dawn” is underway in Nigeria’s agricultural research system.
