Officials from Bauchi State and education stakeholders have reviewed the state’s 2025 second-quarter budget performance, highlighting challenges in meeting education sector targets.
The meeting, organised by the Young Leaders Network (YLN) in partnership with the state Ministries of Education and Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, was held under the Strengthening Advocacy for Girls Education Project, funded by the Malala Fund.
Seun Justin, Executive Director of YLN, stated that the review aimed to ensure budget allocations align with education plans and that regular monitoring would prevent the state from falling short of its annual targets.
Rabi’u Kubdiya, Director of Finance at the Ministry of Education, emphasised the importance of efficient resource management and noted that interventions from the AGILE Project had supported key sector initiatives.
Abubakar Usman, a planning officer with the Ministry of Budget, highlighted delays in fund releases as a significant barrier, even as progress was made in sustaining education financing.
Stakeholders observed that the cumulative education budget performance for the first two quarters—23.02%—was inadequate. They called for stronger implementation measures to bridge funding gaps and achieve the state’s education objectives.
