Bayero University Kano (BUK) has reassured its commitment to regional academic cooperation with its participation in the ‘Wearing of the Gown’ ceremony at Dan Dicko Dankoulodo University of Maradi (UDDM), Niger Republic.
A delegation led by Prof Muhammad Auwal Hussaini, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and representative of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Haruna Musa, attended the event on September 8, 2025.
The ceremony, supervised by the Conseil Africain et Malgache pour l’Enseignement Supérieur (CAMES), saw the induction of 29 academics, including six professors and 23 associate professors, into higher academic ranks. The delegation also included Prof Sanusi Gaya Mohammed, Director of the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA).
In a goodwill message, Hussaini congratulated UDDM’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elhadji Mahamadou Gounga, describing the milestone as proof of Niger’s growing academic capacity. He stressed BUK’s readiness to deepen cooperation through research, faculty development, and student exchange.
The Nigerien Minister of Education, Research and Innovation, Prof Mamadou Saidou, and Prof Gounga commended BUK for its contributions to strengthening academic ties. As part of the ceremony, Prof Hussaini and Gaya joined in robing some of the newly inducted professors.
