CJN Calls for Upgrade of Court Libraries

Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has urged the upgrade of judicial libraries nationwide to enhance legal research and inform court decisions.

Speaking at a workshop in Abuja, she emphasised that modern technology has transformed the way courts operate and that libraries must adapt accordingly. She said good judicial decisions depend on accurate and up-to-date legal information, which libraries provide. The CJN noted that libraries are not just for books but serve as the brain of the court. She also called for more training for library staff in digital tools and research.

Justice Salisu Abdullahi, head of the National Judicial Institute, stated that the workshop would enable library workers to acquire new skills in supporting judges. He announced plans to evaluate the effectiveness of their training programmes nationwide. Both leaders agreed that better libraries mean better justice.
