Clay Pots can Cut Nigeria’s Healthcare Bill – Don

A university don, Professor Emmanuel Eghe Egbon of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, has advised Nigerians to return to using clay pots and vessels for cooking, eating, and drinking, stating that it can save the country billions of naira in healthcare costs.

Speaking at the university’s 134th inaugural lecture, titled “Drinking and Eating with Clay Vessels, Renewed Hope,” the environmental chemistry scholar explained that clay promotes healthier living and offers a natural solution to many health problems caused by plastics.

He noted that water stored in clay pots contains far more oxygen than bottled water, which he described as “dead water.” According to him, clay helps improve digestion, prevents sunstroke, detoxifies the body, regenerates skin tissue, and even reduces reliance on artificial supplements.

Prof. Egbon urged the government to review the chemistry curriculum to focus more on practical applications, stressing that embracing multifunctional earth materials could boost national development. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Samuel, hailed the research as groundbreaking.
