The Federal Government has raised an alarm over the growing trend of immorality linked to sign-out celebrations in Nigerian schools.
Originally meant as a harmless farewell by graduating students, sign-out culture, where peers write on shirts, take photos, and hold parties, has now been criticised for encouraging indecent dressing, public misconduct, and immoral behaviour.
Several schools and state governments have already banned the practice. Institutions such as Ladoke Akintola University, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, and the University of Ilorin have all banned sign-out events following reports of indecent acts. Recently, Jigawa, Sokoto, Niger, and Kwara states also imposed restrictions, citing moral and security concerns.
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, stated that the government would intensify sensitisation efforts to restore discipline and values among young people.
