The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed all Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres to adopt Microsoft Camera technology for the registration of candidates for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The Board said the new requirement is part of efforts to curb identity fraud and other malpractices detected during the 2025 UTME. The directive becomes fully effective from October 1, 2025.
JAMB’s Gombe State Coordinator, Mr Johnson Adebiyi, reaffirmed the policy during a monitoring visit to El-Lawanti ICT Centre in Gombe, where he inspected compliance with the new registration standards.
He warned that any CBT centre found violating the directive risked being delisted. “This is a non-negotiable security measure to protect the integrity of our registration process,” Adebiyi said.
The introduction of the Microsoft Camera system follows the Board’s investigation into over 6,000 suspected cases of technology-driven cheating, including biometric manipulation, AI-assisted image morphing, and multiple identity registrations.
JAMB has also expanded opportunities for accredited CBT centres to handle new registration services and collaborate with other examination bodies such as WAEC and NECO.
The Federal Government recently approved a three-year ban for candidates found guilty of examination malpractice across all national examinations, with enforcement linked to each candidate’s National Identification Number (NIN).
