Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has allocated land to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, for staff housing in Sabon Gari and Chikun local government areas.
He presented the land documents to ABU Vice-Chancellor Professor Kabiru Bala and his management team during a visit to Government House, Kaduna, on Wednesday. The governor said the move was intended to improve staff welfare and ease accommodation challenges at the institution.
Governor Sani described education as central to his administration’s agenda, noting that 26% of the 2025 state budget was earmarked for the sector. He highlighted the construction of 62 new schools, renovation of 1,700 classrooms, a 50% cut in tuition fees at state-owned tertiary institutions and the launch of three vocational centres.
He added that Kaduna would work with ABU to expand technical skills training.
Prof Bala, who led the ABU delegation, welcomed the allocation and praised the state’s investment in education and inclusive governance. He said the university would strengthen its partnership with Kaduna to tackle insecurity and promote development.
The land allocation is expected to provide relief for staff housing needs while deepening ties between the state and the university.
