The Lagos State Government has launched a large-scale review of infrastructure in public primary schools to improve the quality of basic education.
The initiative, known as the NEEDS Assessment Project, was unveiled during a stakeholders’ meeting and will cover 1,238 schools, vocational centres, and inclusive units across the state.
According to Abe Adunola of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), the project will identify gaps in classrooms, teaching capacity, and learning resources to guide targeted renovations and upgrades.
Board member Owolabi Falana described the exercise as a crucial step in strengthening the foundation of basic education in Lagos. Representing the state’s deputy chief of staff, Olusegun Sanwo-Olu, stated that the government is committed to data-driven reforms that will create safer and better-equipped learning environments for pupils and teachers.
The project is expected to ensure more effective allocation of resources and lay the groundwork for lasting improvements in Lagos schools.
