Nurses and midwives at Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have issued a 15-day strike notice over poor welfare and neglect by management.
Under the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), the workers accused the hospital of sidelining them whenever new benefits were approved for health workers in Oyo State. In a statement signed by Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake, they lamented that while their colleagues in other state facilities already enjoy the new national minimum wage, LAUTECH nurses are yet to benefit.
They also complained of unpaid COVID-19 allowances, delayed hazard pay, and years of pending promotion arrears. Other demands include the recruitment of more nurses to address staff shortages and the renovation of nurses’ stations.
The group warned that failure of the state government to meet their demands within 15 days will leave them with no choice but to embark on an indefinite strike, a move that could disrupt health services in the hospital.
