Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has said that public officials or institutions found guilty of misappropriating the student loans disbursed by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) will be punished under the law. He mentioned this during the flag-off of the investigative hearing of the ‘Alleged unethical practices in the disbursement and management of Student Loans’ organised by the Joint Committee on Student Loans, Tertiary Education and Services, and Banking and Currency.
Tajudeen described the public hearing as a duty to the students whose education and future are tied to the financing system. According to him, the House of Representatives “cannot afford to allow the student loan initiative to be undermined by administrative inefficiencies, regulatory gaps, or deliberate abuse of process.”
