The National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) has launched its 2025–2029 Strategic Plan to transform Nigeria’s seed sector with technology, transparency, and stronger financing.
Director General of NASC, Fatuhu Muhammed, unveiled the plan during a validation workshop in Abuja on Friday. He stated that the roadmap aims to transform the Council into a modern regulator capable of addressing long-standing challenges while ensuring food security for Nigerians.
According to Muhammed, the new plan is designed to build on achievements from the previous cycle, including the Plant Variety Protection Act and pilot projects for third-party seed certification.
He, however, admitted that audits exposed key gaps in digital transformation, sustainable funding, and structured partnerships. Addressing these gaps, he said, will be critical in achieving the new targets.
The Council believes the strategy will boost seed quality, empower farmers, and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural future.
