The Kwara State Government has approved the construction of a ₦11.9 billion Senate building for the Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED), Malete, as part of its efforts to boost infrastructure and human capital development in the state.
The contract, awarded to M C & T Limited, is expected to be completed within 15 months. The four-storey complex will feature Senate and Council chambers, conference halls, and offices for principal officers, including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, and Bursar. It will also house departments including Finance, Registry, Student Affairs, and Examinations and Records.
Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr Segun Ogunsola, described the project as a key step in building the institution’s administrative capacity. Announcing the decision on Thursday, Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, stated that the project is part of the wider Kwara Smart City initiative, which aims to position the state as a hub for education and innovation.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has prioritised education since taking office in 2019, with investments in school rehabilitation, teacher recruitment, and tertiary facilities. The new Senate building, according to the government, will provide a conducive environment for academic governance and strengthen the university’s role in driving inclusive growth.
