Popular civic accountability group, MonITNG, has lamented the abandonment of the Niger State Library Board Headquarters in Minna, describing it as a symbol of government neglect of education.
In a statement on Thursday, the platform decried that the facility, located less than two kilometres from the Government House, has deteriorated into a state of ruin.
Once a hub for students, researchers, and readers, the library is now overtaken by weeds, with parts of the premises reportedly converted into farmland and a hideout for criminals.
“The roof has been blown off, walls are collapsing, windows are shattered, and the entire building is in shambles,” MonITNG said.
The group expressed concern that the decay has denied more than 50,000 residents of Minna access to a critical public learning resource.
It called on Governor Umar Bago to urgently intervene, restore the facility, and reposition it as a centre of research and knowledge for the state.
