The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has dismissed reports that a potential candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor was excluded from the list of qualified applicants.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Ibrahim Sheme, the university described the reports as misleading, insisting that the list being circulated was not final.
“The names of members on the so-called congregation list are not final and in no way represent the list of members qualified to be Vice-Chancellor. Indeed, the said name has been included,” the statement read.
NOUN clarified that the application process for the position, which was advertised in three national newspapers, remains open until the official deadline. It stressed that the search for the next Vice-Chancellor was ongoing and had not been foreclosed.
The university council assured the academic community that the selection would be conducted fairly and transparently, urging the public to disregard what it described as attempts to stir controversy.
The process to appoint a new Vice-Chancellor follows the end of tenure of the current head of the institution.
